Cute Crochet Beanie Tutorial

Learn how to crochet this cute adult beanie, step by step and with just one skein of Hobbii Amigo XL yarn! This pattern is suited for those confident with standard crochet stitches and can be done in one afternoon!



Skill level:

Advanced Beginner - Easy (CYC Standard)


Size:

Adult - 22"


Supplies Needed:

  • Hobbii Amigo XL or any Medium (4) Weight Yarn

  • 5.00 mm (H-8) Hook

  • Yarn Needle

  • Scissors

  • Stitch marker (if needed)

Gauge:

6 DC3TOG = 4" (10cm), 8 pattern rows (DC3TOG and V ST) = 4"(10cm) Adjust hook size up or down to meet gauge


Abbreviations:

CH – Chain

SC – Single Crochet

HDC – Half Double Crochet

DC – Double Crochet

SL ST – Slip Stitch

SK ST – Skip Stitch

ST(S) – Stitch(es)

YO - Yarn Over


Notes:

  • Chains at the beginning of rows 1-7, and 16-17 do not count as stitches

  • Chains at the beginning of rows 8-15 do count as stitches

  • DC2TOG and beginning CH, count as DC3TOG

  • It is recommended that you count each row before continuing

Special Stitches:


MR - Magic Ring

With tail of yarn in palm, wrap working yarn around three middle fingers

With top of hand facing, put hook under first strand of yarn, under second strand of yarn

Pull second strand of yarn, under first strand then twist the yarn with your hook

Carefully pull out three fingers and secure the circle with a chain. Chain counts as first chain in pattern

DC2TOG

YO, insert hook into stitch, YO, pull up a loop,

YO, pull through two loops (two loops left on hook), YO,

Insert hook into stitch, pull up loop, YO, pull through two loops,

(Three loops left on hook), YO, pull through all three loops


DC3TOG

YO, insert hook into stitch, YO, pull up a loop,

YO, pull through two loops (two loops left on hook), YO,

Insert hook into stitch, pull up loop, YO, pull through two loops,

(Three loops left on hook), YO, insert hook into stitch, pull up a loop,

YO, pull through two loops (four loops left on the hook)

YO, pull through all four loops

Form MR (Magic Ring)

PLEASE NOTE: Chains do not count as stitches in the following rows.


Row 1 - CH 2, HDC into ring, SL ST into first ST (8 HDC)


Row 2 - CH 3, 2 DC in each ST around SL ST into first ST (16 DC)


Row 3 - CH 1, *1 SC, 2 SC in next ST*, repeat to end, SL ST into first ST (24 SC)


Row 4 - CH 2, *2 HDC, 2 HDC in next ST*, repeat to end, SL ST into first ST (32 HDC)


Row 5 - CH 3, *3 DC, 2 DC in next ST*, repeat to end, SL ST into first ST (40 DC)


Row 6 - CH 2, *4 HDC, 2 HDC in next ST*, repeat to end, SL ST into first ST (48 HDC)


Row 7 - CH 1, *5 SC, 2 SC in next ST* , repeat to end, SL ST into first ST (56 SC)

Row 8 - CH 3, DC into same ST, SK ST, *(DC, CH, DC) in next ST, SK ST* repeat to end, SL ST into top of beginning CH (56 DC)


Row 9 - CH 3, DC2TOG into CH space, CH, *DC3TOG, CH* repeat to end, SL ST into top of beginning CH (28 DC3TOG)


Row 10 - CH 3, DC into same ST, SK ST, *(DC, CH, DC) in CH space, SK ST* repeat to end, SL ST into top of beginning CH (56 DC)


Row 11 - CH 3, DC2TOG into CH space, CH, *DC3TOG, CH* repeat to end, SL ST into top of beginning CH (28 DC3TOG)

Fasten off. Weave in ends. Turn beanie inside out.
